Alexander Wang is one of New York's newest fashion stars known for the laid back New York style commonly seen worn by off duty models. His work is becoming more widely known and worn and his tailoring becoming highly sought after. So what is it that makes Alexander Wang's clothes so highly sought after and why is it that the celebrities and fashonistas just can't seem to get enough of his clothes?
Alexander Wang launched his eponymous line in 2004. His gorgeous t shirt dresses, silk tank tops and cropped tailored jackets have become known as his signature pieces. He has become known for what is described as the grunge girl look - a relaxed but more polished version of the original grunge trend.
For spring summer 09, his collection has not disappointed with his usual highly successful formula of clean, sleek and laid back tailoring. It has probably been one of his most daring collections yet with some colour and an Art Decco feel. This is in stark contrast to previous collections which have featured dark colours and last season all black. It also had a definite eighties feel about it inline with a number of other designer collections this season.
He is gradually gaining a greater presence in the fashion world with his new shoe collection and a diffusion line of T-shirts called T by Alexander Wang. Overall Alexander Wang has been tipped by fashion editors as a young designer with a great future ahead of him. I will definitely be adding him to my list of designers to watch for the year ahead.
